What is Drifting?

If your cars rear end has ever swung out while you were trying to gain control on a wet road, you have drifted. Drifting is a motorsport where a driver intentionally oversteers, causing loss of tracition in a rear wheel drive car. Driftings competition aspect is  a drivers line, angle, speed, and style. Judges sit somewhere on the track where they can see all corners and judge the drivers. Once a driver has qualified, they are able to tandem. Tandem drifting is when two drivers are on the track at the same time. The drivers are judged on their gap to the other driver, along with line angle and speed. Whichever driver demonstrates the best of these factors is the winner. Each round of tandem drivers alternate between following and leading until a winner is clear.

Professional and Amateur drifting competitions are held worldwide. In the U.S each region has its own amateur league that competes for professional drift licenses. Once a driver has his or her professional license they are able to compete in larger events such as Formula Drift which is my goal.
